Hi everyone, we hope you all are doing well! We are excited to share with you our first devlog, which normally will include a short overview of what we've worked on this week, but since it's our first one, I wanted to start with a brief introduction to the game we are working on!

We are currently developing a 2D platformer set in a retro-futuristic magical city, a city full of conflict, between high and low class, citizens and their institutions, magical and non-magical people, between power and the lack of it.

Players will explore the fantastical but squalid layers of the city as a Seeker, a non-magical enforcer whose job it is to root out unsanctioned magic use on behalf of the city's government. Throughout the city they will deal with threats, speak with citizens, uncover documents as they learn more and more about the city's past, and perhaps gain insight into its future. As a non-magical person, the Seeker will need to make use of special items and effects to counter their magical opponents.

Which gives me a great opportunity to talk about one of the game's mechanics we are most excited about, the status effect and item system!

First and foremost, we have built up a robust system of status effects, yes, things like:

- Burning

- Wet

- Electrified

But also things like:

- Anti-Illusion

- Anti-Warding

- Anti-Transforming

Throughout their journey, the Seeker will collect items, like grenades, darts, and potions, as well as effects, like those above, and combine them to create the perfect combinations for dealing with the various schools of magic they are faced with! For example, one of our starting item/effect combinations is a grenade filled with water, which can easily make enemies too wet to use fire magic (of the most common schools for quick destruction).

Thanks so much for taking a look at this guys, and we look forward to sharing more with you! With that, I'll leave you now with some concept art as a tease. :)
